CVRD watershed targets are based on a wide range of factors such as soil conditions, development patterns, groundwater levels, recharge rates, stream flows, temperature and water quality. For simplicity we are using ‘stream health’ as an indicator of how close we are to rebuilding a natural and resilient system. Local streams are our “canaries in the coal mine” – when they are not healthy, we know that something is wrong with our watershed’s balance. Once you starting playing around with this tool, you’ll notice a Stream Health Indicator dial that moves according to the water management choices you are making.
